Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing professional self-concept of advanced practice nurses.
Methods: Data were collected from 185 advanced practice nurses in B city. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and simultaneous multiple regression using SPSS/WIN 21.0 program.
Results: Professional self-concept of advanced practice nurses significantly differed according to age, work place, current position, total career and satisfaction to nursing. There were significant correlations between autonomy and role conflict (r=-.24, p<.001), and professional self-concept (r=.61, p<.001). Autonomy (¥â=.52), work place (Hospital, ¥â=.38/ Tertiary hospital, ¥â=.38) and satisfaction to nursing (¥â=.23) were significant factors, which explained 41% of the variance in professional self-concept (F=13.53, p<.001).
Conclusion: Based upon the finding, this study provides useful information that could assist in improving professional self-concept of advanced practice nurses.
